Post Coil position on flywheel Reply with quote
Hey guys,
Recently i had to pull the starter off to find a noise my engine was making and it happened to be the coil rubbing on the flywheel.
After closer inspection i noticed that the coil pickups dont sit fully over the magnets on the flywheel, about 6mm would sit over them and 2mm off to the side.
Am i losing power cause the whole coil pickup isnt covering the magnets,or wouldnt 2mm worth matter Question
Its just to move it across im gunna have to modify the coil mount and my crankcase aswell
Heres a pic of the flywheel and the rubb marks on it when it come loose to show how much of the magnet it actually covers Wink

Tell me what yous think Smile

how about putting some washers behide the coil to move it out more. but if its got to come back the other way take a bit off the coil mout with a grinder...?
i realy dont think its that big a deal tho i dont think mine is perfectly over the magnets.
i had the coil rubbing on my fly wheel prity often aswel, the bike still runs but not at full power and i know that noise your talking bout. i used some spring washers and Locktight on the screws, and the coil hasnt moved again.

Hey Grevs, yeah the coil needs to go inwards to be more in line with the magnets,so it looks like a coil mount modifying job, plus a bit off the crankcase Rolling Eyes
I was struggling with my coil coming loose all the time no matter what i used on it a little while back,so i ended up putting longer bolts in with the red loctite on them 6months ago and they havent budged Twisted Evil only thing is now im gunna need some heat to remove em Razz

what i did was to grind the area from the crankcase (which i did with the flywheel on and on the bike Razz ) so it could physically fit, then i mounted the low bolt hole straight to the crankcase without the bracket and modified (have to cut one arm off and make it shorter) the bracket to hold the top part of the coil. 20 minutes work still on the bike.

ill get some pics when i get back from a test ride. WOOOO

As i didnt want to grind down the crankcase i ground back the coil mount as far as i could safely without leaving it paper thin in some areas and its brought it inwards about 2 & half mm so ill have more of the coil covering the surface area of the magnets on the flywheel. Very Happy
Now ive just gotta wait for my new coil and reeds etc to arrive and it should be running crisp as Twisted Evil

Since i already had carbon pollini blues(.30+) and greens(.35+) ive opted for the Bzm carbon .32+ which is just about a happy medium for the others i have Razz
As for the coil im prolly gunna go a bzm ducati grey(same as existing) or try a diff one, anyone recommend any other good ones for a pollini engine with banshee flywheel Question
Cheers Smile

does your crank case have the extra screw hole for a coil with the 3 pick ups, if it does i run a Red BZM coil 3 pick up on my polini motor. i had to file out the two holes on the coil a touch just so i could rase it off the fly wheel. im not sure if it was worth the work becuase my old coil sparked good enough, but the new coil has huge spark, bright blue .
