Something that a lot of 2 stroke tuners do is to cut steps into the trigger coil, this has the effect of advancing the timing with the increasing rpm and is done on a lot of r/c engines. No more to say on this as if you don't know about it, it is too hard to explain here.

Bobalini, good to hear from your bank of knowledge again! Interesting. I assume by 'cut' you mean the winding is wound in 'steps'? A procedure that can only be done by winding your own coils right?

it would have to be, thats the only way it can be done,

A tap is nothing more than a wire connection made at some point on a winding between the very ends. Not surprisingly, the winding turn/voltage magnitude relationship of a normal transformer holds true for all tapped segments of windings. This fact can be exploited to produce a transformer capable of multiple ratios: (Figure below)
